Welcome!

Welcome!

Welcome to the first post of my new blog, The Text in Context. I plan to use this blog to share ideas about how to interpret biblical passages in the 21st century, with attention to their original ancient context as well. Since I have a PhD in New Testament, I will focus most of my attention on New Testament passages, but the Hebrew Bible will certainly come up now and then as well. If you want to know more, you can read about the blog here. If you want to know more about me, you can read more here.

Though I enjoy classroom teaching, I also love to connect with people in congregations. I believe the adventure of reading the Bible is at its best when good scholarship intersects with people’s lived experience. Conversations are more fun when they go two directions, so I hope that if you read a blog post on this site you will make a comment or ask a question that adds to the discussion. Or, if you want to contact me directly with feedback or questions, you can contact me here.

If you would like to receive an email letting you know when I’ve made a new post, you can subscribe to my blog. Simply enter your email address in the “Subscribe to blog via email” box on the right side of this page.

Thanks for joining me on the adventure!
